9 Tools That Every Chef Has And You Should Have Too

It’s time to take a look at your kitchen draw and making sure you have these essential tools.

After spending many years in restaurant kitchens, these tolls are definitely the most used day in and day out and a must have in every chef toolbox.

Having these tools will improve your efficiency in the kitchen and making your cooking smoother.

Chef Knife

This is by far the most important tool to have.

With so many knife brands and shapes out there, it can be confusing to choose. But when you decide to buy one make sure you are comfortable handling it and it feels well balanced in your hand.

A chef knife is versatile and if you keep it sharp it will be your best friend in the kitchen

Sharping Steel

To keep your knife sharp is really important. A blunt knife in the kitchen is more dangerous than a sharp one.

So make sure you sharpen your knife regularly, and you will have a perfect knife ready to go every time.

I also recommend getting your knife professionally sharpened twice a year.

Thermometer

A good digital thermometer can help you in cooking the perfect steak, as well as, checking oil temperature when frying.

Also, checking sugar temperature when making meringue or candies and many more recipes.

Tongs

Essential for turning meat, veggies, stirring long pasta and plating

Give it a couple of claps to make sure they are working (chef joke)

Microplane

One of the best quality graters you can find on the market. Perfect for finely grating cheese, garlic, chocolate, zesting and more.

Peeler

Ofter underestimated, but a good peeler is essential to have. Not only you will save time when peeling vegetables but also you minimise the wastage. you can also use it to create veggie ribbons, chocolate curls or parmesan shavings. Experiment.

I personally prefer the Y shape compare to the straight one.

Mandoline

With a mandolin, you can get precision cuts every single time and at speed. Most of the time they come with different attachments so you not only can slice but also make julienne and batons

Paring Knife

For more delicate or for small precision tasks such as deveining prawns.

Bench Scraper

A must have when making pasta or pastry. Great for scraping and cleaning your bench, for easily cutting your dough or it can be used to create pasta shapes.
