About the event
Alice Massaria, expert oil taster, will take the participants through a journey discovering how similar wine and evoo worlds truly are. Exactly like wine, each olive variety is native to a specific area and retains a specific flavour profile different from the others.
We will learn everything from production methods to major regions and cultivars (this is how olive varieties are called) to flavour profiles.Â
During the evening you will be tasting Extra-Virgin Olive Oil from different Italian Regions. Â Each one will be expertly paired with delectable snacks.
Alice Massaria is an award-winning sommelier and olive oil expert born in Vicenza, Italy. She began her studies at the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS) and then completed the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) courses in Australia. In 2015 she was certified at the Court of Master Sommelier.
She subsequently started working in some of Sydney’s most renowned venues as a sommelier, such as Merivale’s Mr Wong and Uccello.Â
She spent 2016-2017 in Europe where she travelled all along Italy in search of the best wine and olive oil producers.
Alice says "We were fascinated to discover that Italy has more than 700 types of olives suitable for extra virgin olive oil making. We have seen a lot of similarities between olives and grapes so we decided to make an extra virgin olive oil list along the lines of a wine list, listing oils from Veneto to Sicily. We enhance the EVOO mono cultivar (made from a single variety), maximum expression of their territory bringing into Australia the unique flavours and fragrances of Tonda Iblea, San Felice. Moraiolo, Itrana, Gentile di Chieti, Coratina, Frantoio, Dritta .Â
